TLPlus Mentoring

Overview

Birmingham Black Lawyers is pleased to partner with The Tyro Lawyer to offer mentoring to undergraduate students aspiring to a career in the legal profession. The Tyro Lawyer programme already provides mentoring to students in 6th form. This partnership offers an exciting opportunity to provide guidance and support to students from ethnic minority backgrounds as they begin their journeys in this profession.

Objectives

  • To improve access to the legal profession for students from ethnic minority backgrounds
  • To improve access to mentors and credible role models for identified students interested in a career in law
  • To help develop employability skills to successfully complete applications for apprenticeships, work experience, vacation schemes and mini pupillages for identified students

How it works

Once paired, mentors will meet virtually with their mentees monthly for 1 hour, to discuss career ambitions, provide advice and direction, assist with cv/application drafting, whatever is needed.

Each pairing is for a period of 6 months.

Mentees will also have free/discounted entry to select BBL events during this period, and will be invited to attend an Insight Evening/open day at a leading law firm at the end of the programme.

We need mentors!
